Our LOGO
The rainbow, beautifully visible after a storm, represents an optimistic vision of the future. In the concept of preventive dental care, a person carries this rainbow above her- or himself every day. Our logo is symbolic of this positive mental attitude that allows us to preserve our health through our daily actions.

Treatment Plans
Comprehensive care requires special planning and execution. We will work with you to provide a complete plan for your oral care. 

Patient Protection
By using the latest techniques, our staff ensures your protection by eliminating cross-contamination.

Each instrument is scrubbed, bagged and sterilized. The treatment area is cleaned and disinfected for each and every patient. We also use many disposable items and safety glasses.    

Policies
Dental Fee Plan: We have made financial arrangements with a credit card company that will finance your dental work with approved credit. This allows you to complete your dental work without delay and make relatively small monthly payments. Applications are available.

Gradual Treatment Plan: If required, we can plan completion of your dental work by spreading your appointments over a longer period of time. We will do the most urgent work at the beginning of treatment. You decide the pace of completion.

Resources
We use an intra-oral camera in each treatment room so individuals may learn about and better understand their particular oral health care needs. 

"Casey" Video Educational System  
These clear, concise and interesting videos help demonstrate and explain to young and young-at-heart patients the various treatments available to them or procedures they may experience.

 
Our Staff
We have a lively and knowledgeable team. We want you to "feel like one of the family" and our staff excels in making this philosophy a reality. The dedication displayed by these individuals over years of loyal service demonstrates a clear commitment not only to patient care but also an admiration for Dr. Gertken and his abilities as a dentist.

 

Karen Insurance and Business Assistant Karen is a Hutchinson native.  She is married to Gregg, who is the sales manager for City Beverage, Inc.  She has two daughters, Kelsey and Katie as well as four grandchildren.  She has been part of the Dental Care Family for 11 years as Dr Gertken's business assistant.  Karen's devotion to teamwork has her helping out wherever she is needed.  She can be especially helpful in planning the financial portion of your dental care.

Mary Receptionist Mary joined the Dental Care Family staff in 2007. Her husband Pat is employed with Sales Data Inc. They have two children, Erin who is employed at Baker University in Baldwin City, KS. Joe who attends K-State majoring in marketing and is a member of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity. She looks forward to seeing you at your next appointment. When you call, you'll probably hear her pleasant voice!

Marsha Dental Assistant Both Marsha and her husband, Dale, were born and raised in our community. Dale is the manager of Exhibits and Restoration at the Kansas Cosmosphere. Marsha and Dale have three children: Terrence, Lonnie and Jesse. Marsha has been the chair-side dental assistant for 32 of the doctor's 36 years in business. She obviously enjoys her career, and we are honored to have her as a member of the Dental Care Family.

Angela Dental Assistant Angela was born and raised in Hutchinson.  She has been a dental assistant for 12 years.  Eight of those years have been spent with the Dental Care Family.  Angela assisted Dr. Gertken while attending HCC, she then moved to Manhattan to attend Kansas State University.  While living there she worked as an oral surgery assistant.  Angela was happy to move back to her hometown to be close to family and to continue her career with the Dental Care family.

Vicki Registered Dental Hygienist Vicki has been with Dr. Gertken for 10 years. She and her husband, Fred, who works for OneOk Hydrocarbons, have three children: Ty is a civil engineer in Golden, CO. Dustin graduated from K-State and is working on his masters at the University of Minnesota.  And Nicole graduated from Hutchinson Community College and followed her mothers footsteps and graduated from Missouri Southern College majoring in dental hygiene.  Vicki received her dental hygiene degree at Missouri Southern in Joplin, Missouri. Vicki is dedicated to helping you maintain a healthy and beautiful smile.

 

Johanna Registered Dental Hygienist Johanna and her husband, Nathan, are Hutchinson natives and have three children: Madeline, Elija, and Samuel. Nathan is the band director at Prairie Hills Middle School. Johanna received her RDH from Wichita State University and has been a registered dental hygienist with Dr. Gertken for over six years. She has enjoyed being a part of the Dental Care Family. Come say “hi” to Johanna at your next checkup.

FAQs

What does Registered Dental Hygienist mean? 
When you see the letters RDH after an individual's name it signifies that he or she has completed an in-depth program in oral health maintenance and education. Many dental hygienists have a 4-year Bachelor's of Science degree. Some have a two-year Certificate in Dental Hygiene. All have completed intensive training, must meet academic requirements to be accepted into an accredited dental hygiene school, and be licensed by the Dental Board of each state. To maintain his or her licenses, an RDH must take continued education, usually from 30 to 35 hours every two years, depending upon the state he or she is licensed in.
