The Dental Care Family was established in July, 1975.
Our dental hygiene staff provides thorough and complete oral exams, dental prophylaxis (cleaning), periodontal and oral hygiene maintenance and oral hygiene education and care.
Dr. James P. Gertken
James P. Gertken is a native of St. Louis, Missouri and one of seven children. He received a ROTC scholarship to Loyola University of the South in New Orleans, and graduated with a chemistry degree in secondary education. He graduated from the University of Missouri at Kansas City Dental School with a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree in 1975.
While a student at UMKC, Dr. Gertken, his wife, Pam, and a small group of students won two national awards for their work in establishing the Westport Free Dental Clinic, which is still in operation.
In 1975, he established the Dental Care Family practice in Hutchinson, Kansas. Dr. Gertken provides a full range of services in a general practice setting.
Dr. Gertken is a Fellow of the International College of Cranio-Mandibular Orthopedics and a Geriatric Oral Health Care Fellow at the University of Missouri at Kansas City. He is a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists and completed a residency in Oral Implantology at the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio. He has been declared a Geriatric Oral Health Fellow at UMKC and is a member of the American and Kansas Dental Associations. He has been in practice for 32 years.
Dental Insurance
We accept many various insurance plans. Karen, our insurance and financial assistant, helps to ensure that insurance claims are made in a timely manner. Good dental health is not gained or lost by having dental insurance.
Please understand that dental insurance is a contract between you and the insurance company, not with the Dental Care Family. The patient is the responsible party regardless of coverage or the lack thereof. Be sure to check your coverage and understand the provisions of your policy. Your portion, for the uncovered amount, is due at the time the treatment is provided.
